At Heritage Christian Academy, we believe that some of the most meaningful learning happens when students step outside the classroom. Whether serving on a capstone mission trip, exploring history and economics on a local field trip, or diving into their passions through optional enrichment travel, our students gain unforgettable experiences that deepen their faith, spark discovery, and build lasting community.
From Kindergarten to 12th grade, travel at HCA is purposeful, formative, and joy-filled—designed to help students see God’s world, grow in wisdom, and live boldly.
Elementary Field Trips
At HCA, learning goes beyond the classroom—even in the earliest grades. Each elementary class takes two field trips per year, designed to spark curiosity, build community, and bring classroom concepts to life. These experiences include a balance of fun and educational enrichment, with visits to some of the Kansas City area’s most iconic and engaging destinations. Past field trips have included:
Blue Springs School of Economics & Ernie Miller Nature Center
Whether exploring history, science, music, or economics, these field trips help our youngest learners discover God's world in exciting, hands-on ways.
8th Grade Biblical Foundations Trip
This trip aims to help students better understand how the Bible is reliable as our primary foundation for establishing our worldview as Christians. Throughout the trip, students are shown that Scripture is inspired and all-sufficient for teaching us what we must believe about God and what God requires of man.

10th Grade History & Heritage Trip
Each year, our 10th graders have the opportunity to travel to Washington, D.C., to look at civics and national history from a biblical perspective as we consider what it looks like to be a Christian in the public square.

12th Grade Senior Capstone Trip
Each year, our seniors conclude their HCA journey with a meaningful capstone experience that blends service, spiritual growth, and celebration. This memorable week-long trip gives students the opportunity to serve alongside a local church or Christian ministry, participating in hands-on outreach while deepening their understanding of gospel-centered service. In addition to ministry work, the trip includes time to relax, explore the area, and enjoy intentional fellowship as a class.

Optional Enrichment Trips
In addition to our annual class trips, HCA students have the opportunity to participate in optional travel experiences connected to their academic interests and extracurricular involvement. These trips provide unique real-world exposure, deepen student engagement, and often create lifelong memories. Recent enrichment trips have included:
Fine Arts: Broadway experience in New York City.
Students for Life: Kansas Walk for Life in Topeka, KS.
Yearbook: National JEA/NSPA Convention for student media, leadership, and training.
Young Americans Foundation (YAF): Leadership retreat and cultural visit to the Reagan Ranch in Santa Barbara, CA.
These experiences are optional and available to students involved in the related programs or clubs. Each one is designed to enhance learning, foster community, and offer a meaningful glimpse into future possibilities.
