Curriculum and Philosophy

Heritage Christian Academy’s preschool program is concerned with the whole child: to bring the whole child to God through Christ and to aid in subsequent growth in that relationship. It also seeks to give the whole child training for a productive life in our world.
- As a spiritual being, we are created for fellowship with God. Growth in this area is nurtured by prayer, study, obedience to Scripture and participation in the Christian community.
- As an emotional being, we find wholeness only through a relationship with Christ. As a child grows in this relationship, he recognizes the talents and limitations God has given and learns to accept himself as he is.
- As a rational being, each child is capable of developing those mental disciplines necessary for life. We are set free through faith in Jesus Christ to know God, and to look at life from God’s perspective.
- As a physical being, each child of God has a body which is the dwelling place of the Holy Spirit and is offered up to God for His use. The Christian has a duty to understand it, care for it and develop it properly.
Curriculum
Young children learn through meaningful play and experimentation. Pre-K students will have the opportunity to engage in hands-on and interactive play in a safe, non-threatening environment. Letter names and sounds will be introduced, as well as beginning mathematical concepts. In preparing for kindergarten, socializing and group activities are emphasized while students develop an understanding of structure and self-control in the classroom. Heritage Christian Academy Preschool uses the following curriculum:
BIBLE – God’s Family (Christian Schools International)
Students learn about the beginning of the world, God’s plan for his family, Jesus’ life and teaching, and God’s helpers in the New Testament church. Students learn events in context so they can understand more fully what it means to be part of God’s family.
MATH – Saxon Pre-K (Harcourt Achieve)
This curriculum emphasizes manipulatives and mental mathematics. It uses a multisensory approach to develop a solid foundation in the language and basic concepts of mathematics. Incremental development and continual review are essential components.

READING – Sounds Sensible (S.P.I.R.E. by Educators Publishing Service)
This curriculum delivers structured, sequential, hands-on instruction in phonological awareness and beginning phonics skills.
HANDWRITING – Handwriting Without Tears
